Attempted another IronButt in October...this one was almost 1200 miles in Northern CA. We trailered the bikes to the start point in Atascadero (by San Luis Obispo) and then rode from Atascadero to Fresno, to Jamestown (by Yosemite) to Eureka CA. Actually, after 15 hours of riding some of the most beautiful roads I've been on, we bagged the trip just 50 miles south of Eureka - it became too dangerous to continue (pitch black, road was scored for paving, and there were deer and elk zipping across the road). That and the knowledge that my riding buddy (who was leading) was starting to be affected by the cold made me decide to pull over at the first available rest stop: Myers Inn. As we walked in to warm up in the lobby, they started a huge fire in fireplace, on whose mantel rested two large crosses and a 4 foot picture of Jesus. Talk about surreal. Our warming up led to us booking one of the last rooms in the hotel (which only had 10 rooms)...and we left first thing the next morning to continue our 10 hour ride south, through San Francisco and back down to Atascadero. Pretty grueling for a 3-day weekend but I wouldn't have traded it

for anything...it was great to be out on the open road on my iron horse.
