Nigel and I celebrated 16 years of being married this past July 7th. Actually it's 21 years in full. That's more than half my life. I never figured I'd be one of those people who found someone and that was it. I thought I'd be like one of those characters in a Danielle Steele novel where Chapter One begins and they are sitting in their corporate Lear jet on the runway ruminating about life as a powerful woman at age 26...with long legs and raven hair and a stable of lovers. If I had been a betting person, I would have lost my bet. But I digress. The kids were gone to Hawaii for the entire month, so that gave us 30 days to play and be a true couple again...as in a "couple" of people. Very interesting experiment...at first we didn't know what to say to each other, we were out of our routine of Things You Do To Run An Effective Family. And then we started relaxing and playing and it was great. We went to a ranch above Santa Barbara called the Bar B and rode horses, and we went to Tucson AZ to the Miraval Resort and Spa. All good fun...and definitely reassuring to know that it looks like we'll be okay once we hit the Empty Nest syndrome.
